I don't have a favorite yet because evos haven't been announced, so I'm not letting myself get attached to any one in case one or more turns out to be shit (or better than the one I liked earlier). Just gonna wait until we hear more.

Starter stats are always good, especially compared to most mons you'll run into. That and the fact that the games will undoubtedly be pretty easy doesn't make me blink at the possibility that a starter's stat distribution might be suboptimal.

Stats mean nothing. Everytime I make a team, it's based on looks. For the longest time I ran rapidash and petilil, of all fucking Pokemon. Why? Badass and cute. Plus, beating the game doesn't require good stats. Playing against friends doesn't require that. Not even online. You need skill for that.

Remenber that after the powercreep a pokemon must have amazing speed (120+) and attack (125+), to even have a chance to work as sweeper, and don't forget it also need a very good coverage.

That is why I want scorbunny to be fire/fighting, it is the best combination of type for a sweeper of all that have been speculated, fire/steel isn't the best types for a sweeper.

Naw, I always choose favourite starter by design. I might end up using one competitively more because its stats are better, but its the design and concept that makes me choose a favourite.

Right now my favourite is sobble, but it might change when we get the whole line and I see the final stages.

No, not really. Honestly I can still have a fave first stage (Scorbunny) and not like something about it. I go off of whoever has the best final evo. Tepig is my still fave Unova first stage, but not the one I pick because I’m not a fan of Emboar.

I would love to be able to do a blind run but after SM I can't do that.
Im not picking a cute starter, getting attached, loving the shit out of it, evolving it, and ending up with an abomination I actually fucking hate design-wise. That ruins the fun far more than knowing ahead of time.

if only charjabug didn't take until the final island to evolve due to being location based, then toucannon with skill link and a vikavolt would pretty much duo the entirety of the game. that damn bird's bullet seed and rock blast made a lot of the mons just not worth the effort to level up alongside it for me. I paired it with a mareanie/pex I got from an early wonder trade and mudsdale. couldn't ask for an easier story completion.

I'm going to change my favorite when the late stages are revealed, for sure. But stats for starters are almost always good enough for ingame since they all have high BSTs, so it is super rare that I pass on a starter based on shitty stats. (Gen 7's starters' shitty speeds did piss me off, I admit.)

Starters are among the few Pokemon I pick based solely on aesthetics. Starter stats tend to be nothing to write home about anyway. Plus, there are only three of them, meaning that if two of them suck, you risk getting stuck with a type or design that's an eyesore. You're lucky if a starter looks good AND has decent stat potential. If they all suck, there's always boxing.

Starters are the definition of mediocrity as far as stats and moves go.
They're far better than fodder you find in starter areas, not as good as Victory Road mons and not as much of a gimmick as some middle of the road Pokemon that excel in one thing.
Starters are meat to be versatile.
