GameFreak does not give a shit about memes, we know it's not the actual origin. The important thing it is what is it within Pokémon universe, and a living bearded statue is a nice addition for this world. Hasn't anyone seen statues about bearded people in cities? What if they were alive? That's Probopass.

Chimecho is weird, I don't think anyone has ever thought of it as an objectmon on the same level as other ones.
I think that's because of Gen 3's design philosphy leaves Chimecho ambiguous enough that it isn't literally a wind chime, or like Makuhita being a punching bag.
Chingling on the other hand has like no fucking nuance whatsoever and is obviously a bell.
