Pokémon has been lucky that the majority of fans (myself included) have been fine with the minimal changes the main franchise underwent. Until Sun and Moon it was pretty much copy/paste get starter, train mon's beat gyms, beat random evil team, beat elite 4 and champion.
Digimon games on the other hand change with every time a knew game comes out, more Digimon, More ways to digivolve, a brand new fantasy different yet somewhat similar to the last game played.
You say that Digimon copy/pastes a 'classic shonen style plot' but you are ignoring the fact that a good portion of Digimon game's can be played as differently as each Pokémon game can be played so as you said about Pokémon > it's a different dream and voyage every single time
