Why don't we ever get to fight Gold? He's canonically the strongest trainer yet there's no mention of him after GSC/HGSS (that's soul silver not sword and shield for those who can't into context).

You mean Nate is.

And a serious answer is Game Freak likely doesn't want to make the male or female player characters canonical for who was the main character, Red gets a pass since gen 1 only had a boy.

Gen 2 also only had a boy until Crystal

Hilda and Hilbert had the advantage of memory link, so if they had been a character they could go off of who you played as in the game you linked.

You're right about gen 2, but the fact of the matter is they added in a girl later, where gen 1 never had a girl till the remake.

Likely would never happen, since Game Freak actively avoids referencing older player characters besides Red.

The sad truth is the PWT happened to come out at the best time, since Game Freak had the sprites of all of the gens up to that point besides gen 3 made on the DS, so they could be lazy and just reuse their sprite work.

I feel like its highly unlikely we'll ever get a PWT again just on this fact.
