Same as well. As a kid Charmander was the best because dragons but picking bulbasaur in X really brought up my opinion.
Ivysaur has always been top tier among mid evos anyway.

I picked Bulbasaur because I was kind of new to RPGs and didn't know what Oak was talking about.

I wanted Charmander. I eventually got all the starters thanks to a dedicated friend, and a link cable, but my first starter choice is forever soiled.

It's kinda sad, the first pokemon I fully trained was a Totodile in Crystal. But before that I choose Cyndaquil in Gold, accidentaly I made it to learn a normal type move over Ember when it was a Quilava, and I was unable to beat Silver and his Gastly (brainlet kid), so I started a whole new game later on.

One day after stopping being a scrub I fully trained the guy though.
