>>37907669I've seen a couple of interesting interpretations for the onix line. One is onix being a ROCK python that just got steel plating in gen 2 because steel was one of the hot new types. That's supported by both stages classifications as "the ____ snake pokemon." The other interpretation is that they're EARTHworms, supported by the fact that they keep ground typing throughout.
I lean towards the rock python interpretation but I hadn't considered the other one until some anon mentioned it about a year ago.
Great line of pokemon, shame about the stats and the mega's ability.
