>>37930542I'm not necessarily saying they have the same amount of details, it's a dragon, they're going to usually have horns and scales and spikes and extra shit to that effect, but like Vaporeon's extra frills they're still quite simple and make sense with the design, it's still nice and symmetrical, and even with the spots it's really still just a 4-color palette, I guess 5 if you consider the wings distinct.
When I think of over-design, I think of something like
>>37923267 where the overall features aren't necessarily bad, but there are tons of extra colors and finer details that just don't need to be there, like the skeletal pattern on the ghost one or the weird tinier spikes on the Dragon one, or in general their overly fluffy looking coats. All the features on this other one are still pretty large, simple on their own and much easier to remember and draw.
I still get why people wouldn't like it, but I think it strikes a pretty good balance between the truly over-designed fakemons and the ones that just feel like an oversimplified palette swap of something we already have with a symbol painted on it to remind you of its typing.
