Why were the japanese based regions so good? Why are all new regions so shit? Honestly Pokemon really went down hill after gen 4

Pretty much this. The Japan based regions are inspired by their real life counterparts far more subtly than the other regions are.

I do also have a feeling that Japanese regions were far better than others. After gen4 pokemon was getting worse with each new generation.

Only two of the japanese regions were good. Hoenn and Sinnoh were awfully designed.

Also, this is coming from a Unovabortion. Gen 1 and 2 were based, but Hoenn and Sinnoh were awful.

hoenn can get a pass for at least being fine games despite the region being poorly made, but Sinnoh is basically unsalvageable. Anyone who likes Sinnoh is a nostalgiafag whose first Pokémon movie was the Mystery of Mew and whose first games were D/P.
