If you look at the sprite sheets for the second set of PMD it's ridiculous how much better they could've been done.
TPC should've realistically just licensed them from Chunsoft so Game Freak could use them rather than having Creatures do shitty 3D models. All they had to do was request slightly larger ones.
Even the GBA ones are way better than Gen 5's sprites.

The problem with Exp. Share being the way it is is twofold - you don't have the option to use Exp. Share like it originally was if you prefer (they should've left it as it was and brought this back named Exp. All as as it's more like that in Gen 1 now) and they need to design game balance around these things because they shouldn't expect you NOT to use it.
Programming things with the intention people don't use them is bad game design. Bad anything design, really. If you don't intend them to use it then you shouldn't include it at all because your time (and therefore money) is better spent either doing something else or just releasing it sooner.
