A lot of people interpret it as extreme physical abuse from his dad but from how it's phrased here Guz was probably already hard to deal with. I've come to interpret it as Guz being a problem child from the start while his dad was someone who pressured him too hard and set his expectations way too high, but also tried to be a responsible dad and keep his son on the right track. I seriously doubt he beat Guzma with the golf club - I lean more towards the idea that Guzma wrecked it in one of his angry fits and then he and his dad maybe scuffled afterwards.
