>>37941792I don't think anything made by From Soft will ever top DeS for me as it's the result of unique concepts and unpopular ideas that were only possible because the game was assumed to be a commercial failure before it came out. Kind of like Majora's Mask is only so great because of its short development cycle leading to some weird decisions Nintendo would never make otherwise, DeS is so great because From didn't care about catering to a large audience.
Bloodborne is a great game, but it leans too much into the action aspects of the series without adding any actual depth to the combat for me to truly love. Even if I prefer slow methodical combat, I think Bloodborne would've been a better game by abandoning the RPG mechanics from previous games completely and instead flashing out or introducing more action elements. Much like every From Soft game after DaS, it's not a truly great sequel (especially considering this was the forth game that used the same formula) but it isn't unique enough to stand on its own and give that same feel of playing something completely different like DeS did when it came out.
