If you're only going to buy one:
HGSS>BW2>Platinum>BW>powergap>DP(buying either of them would be a waste of money because platinum exists, emulate them if you want to try them)

HGSS if you want a all-around polished experience with a variety of activities. Recommended more if you can get your hands on a Pokewalker.

BW if you don’t know (m)any Generation 5 Pokemon and want an experience like playing through a Pokemon game when the series was new.

B2W2 if you are a fan of Pokemon’s history up to that point and want to use your in-game team in a wide variety of battles and events.

Play B2W2 without having played BW? Absolutely not, BW are different enough to have a unique experience, and it's generally better to play the originals before playing the sequels to any game series.

not really the only thing you're missing out is the story which imho felt really forced and also the exclusive pokedex with all new pokemon, everthing else is still there
