There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but if makes each evolutionary stage less interesting and unique if there's not much to differentiate them from their previous stages.

Nishida said she designed the first 2 kanto stages with the intention of surprising people, though. She said she wanted the final stages to be different enough so nobody could see them coming (which is true as far as Charizard and Blastoise go)

Each stage still has distinct differences from each other, the only starters that I’d say fit “it just gets bigger” are Typhlosion and Feraligatr.

As much as I hate KAAAAANTO dicksucking and think half these fuckers are only cool because of nostalgia, only the bulbasaur line can be said to just get bigger. Although even it has changes, even if it's better described as "it just gets uglier", Charmander and Squirtle change so much though. In particular it will always be weird that it changes color as Charmeleon then goes back to orange.

Honestly Totodile's line is pretty much fine, they all look fairly distinct.
Chikorita would be good if it wasn't a direct rip off of Bulbazaur's concept.
Cindaquil's line is pretty fucking lame in every aspects tho, but Quilava is cool.

A big change is supposed to progress throughout the entire line. Yes they are different from the base stages but they are almost identical to the second stages, especially frogadier. The changes made in the second stage arent really expanded on.

Yes, the actual final stages were hit or miss, but at least they expanded on their concept each stage

Maybe just Typhlosion.
But Totodile's line has more going on than the other two in their bellies, tails and head. Feraligatr actually has "scales" -for lack of a better word- on both his arms. Besides the flower-noose on Meganium's neck and leaf on head, not much going on.

this is the right answer. Chesnaught really isn't that bad, it just needed something on its head rather than the weird skull cap. The colour has a reason, in being the colour inside a chesnut, but it could have been balanced with more brown in the design.

Almost every evolution on Gen 1 will look somewhat lazy if you view it that way.

Pokémon from older generations had a different take on evolution than today, which are all based on autistic concepts because they ran out of animals and ideas

Horsea -> Kingdra actually are closer together than Seadra.
At least Seadra has a basically a urchin face, and either way, its way bigger case of “it just gets bigger” than most fakemons.
Even here, where fake delphox drops its tail onto its own stick and fake Chesnaught not being a ball any more.

Yeah, one thing fakemon evolutions always tend to have is that they lack what evolution entails. Even the gen 1 starters ave visible changes to them while fakemons just literally make things large.

See, if fakemon artists do Venusaur, it will not due a rafflesia/corpse flower but instead just probably make it a pod or just make the bulb bigger.

It's why fakeninja is literally just a frog with bubbles.
