There's a reason why most genwunners consider the cutoff to irredeemable shit to be gen 3. The genwunners are overreacting, but RS did a lot of things wrong and are the first games headed by Masuda

Not really to some extent that always existed. But yes, it got worse after Masuda took over.

If he'd stepped down after the two Gens like Tajiri we'd likely have never gotten to where we are though.

Despite his misteps at least he would've ended on a high note.

I personally didn’t like the third generation after enjoying gens 1 and 2.
That may be why I like Gen 4, because it was something new after the four seemingly long years of gen 3.
That’s also probably why I like the people on this board who started with Gen 4 more than I like those who started with Gen 3.

I think it’s because there was so much change in so little time, I got overwhelmed. The show was transitioning to digital animation with the last few episodes of Johto into the Hoenn saga, Wizards of the Coast stopped producing the cards and we got an entirely new look for the TCG, the art for the Pokemon moved away from watercolor, and the new games were not compatable with the older ones. To which I would say the compatability thing wasn’t an issue so much at first until I realized I would need to do a lot of extra work to get older Pokemon I really liked that weren’t available in the games. There’s also the fact that while Gen 1 and 2 lasted roughly 2-2.5 years in the West, Gen 3 lasted a whole 4 years. I remember going to live events like Pokemon Rocks America and thinking “Man, I really wish we can get something new already.”
But that’s just my personal take. I have no real nostalgia for Gen 3 while having rocky memories of it, so seeing people who remember it fondly gives me an unjustified “Get off my lawn” feeling. I’ve grown to appreciate what it gave over time, but it was personally a low point for my and the series.

they have been doing this every game... just because gen 3 started it doesn't make it the cause of it, it is a staple that shows how flawed the series is, and wish they would keep building on a base to perfect it.

yep, but it was something for people that may have wanted to do something other than battles. And gimmick mon ala milotic

This is what i don't get? the teams were eco terrorists that were fringe extremists, they didn't have to make sense, as long as they could convince others it would be a good thing.

Will give you that, but at least she had her challenge that didn't give you free heals before battle that is now a staple... and speedrunners know the dreaded rival below cycling row.

Getting rid of Day/night isn't bad. It was a dumb mechanic to begin with an only prevented children from sleeping at proper times trying to catch x pokemon when they had school the next morning

Contests brought a whole new perspective to pokemon. It just isn't fleshed out enough. There should be an amateur level etc etc. Just as you gain badges prior to Elite four. Also, better prizes/friendship/happiness/ exp should be awarded

Team Aqua/Magma, I can't defend this

Blaziken is great

Also BATTLE FRONTIER is the best post game.
