can anyone explain to me how some trainers own legendary pokemon?
I've been thinking about this for years, ever since I was a child
are there more than one legendary pokemon for some legendary pokemon?
how can some trainers tame them?
first thing that got my noggin roggin was fucking heatran in one of the pokemon movies
I thought there was only one? Is there more than one Heatran? do some legendary Pokemon have multiples? what constitutes a legendary pokemon?

So heatran is just a rare pokemon. He's not some mythical creature. Same with a lot of the legends. The box legends usually only have one though. Just think of them as very rare pokemon

He's a legit expert on them. He's been studying ruins for years and he managed to actually track them down.

Imagine if he didn't have them. That would be like beating all eight gyms in several regions and never winning a single Pokemon League. What kind of loser would do something like that?

There are cases which are more obvious than others. For example, Dialga and Palkia control time and space, so it's likely there's only one of them. Zekrom and Reshiram too, since they're supposed to come from Kyurem. However, Pokemon like Ho-Oh, Lugia, the legendary birds, Latios and Latias, etc. seem to be very rare Pokemon but not necesarily unique.

AFAIK, there is only ONE Ho-oh, however, there could be more Lati@s and legendary birds from Kanto, also, I think Mythic pokémon are one of a kind.

Something strange is the legendary dogs as they are stated to be some pokémon revived by Ho-oh (Rumored to be Eeveelutions), but it could also be that Ho-oh revived them as Entei Raikou and Suicune, a rare but powerful species of pokémon, as if someone revived a cat as a Tazmanian tiger or some shit.

Then you have dumb shit like the movie where a female Mewtwo shows up, fucking stupid.

There's no point in figthing over head canon if not even the Pokemon Company cares for any logic. Same problem with comparing Pokedex size entries and the anime's actual sizes.

Most of them there are more of, just so rare that people speak legends of them or they did something so great out of no where everybody in that culture worships it as such.

Few of them are deities which the anime doesn't show anybody owning (basically just gen 4 box legends + lake trio + arceus)

The only one that confuses me is groudon, because apparent there can be a fossil of one and a live one at the same time according to battle frontier + jirachi movie.
