After Gen 2, the Pokemania was basically over, but me and a friend happened to find out about Ruby and Sapphire after they launched. We downloaded the ROMs and basically started a Pokemania 2.0 on school. In a month everyone was playing the games and the TCG all the time. It lasted more than a year, we even played Emerald together.
Later i changed schools, and pretty much everyone stopped playing it. I'm still friends with most of my class at the time, a few still like it, but are a little genwunners (but tolerant to gens 2 and 3). We even played GO together and more recently Quest. I hope they keep releasing mobile games like that, it's a good way to keep the old genwun fans interested without affecting too much the mainline.
