Admit it. These are the best games in the series. All the soul of gen 1 without all the drawbacks plus an excellent post game.

Emerald > FRLG

Sevii islands were fantastic, but Hoenn had a better story and region design than Kanto. FRLG were good remakes but owe most of their success to the advances from RSE

Yeah but FRLG butchered the one thing that gave RBY most of its SOUL: the music. Every one of the tracks is godawful compared to the originals and the GSC remixes.

GBA had this horrible design where Nintendo didn't give it built in sound beyond what the GBC had and expected developers to put the stuff needed for good sound on the cartridge itself. Of course in reality almost no-one including Nintendo itself did this as it drove up development costs, manufacturing costs, and took up space on the cart that was needed for things like graphics. It's why you get a few outliers like Castlevania: Circle of the Moon that have amazing sound, but then the next GBA Castlevania literally used a soundtrack that the GBC could have played.

Pretty much a complete upgrade from RBY except some very trivial things like Giovanni not having a Rhydon anymore. Might be my favorite Pokemon games except for maybe HGSS.

It's fine unless you're really nitpicky/autistic about things. You can also take advantage of the lack of phys/spec split on certain Pokemon, like by giving Snorlax shadow ball.

Not quite sure what you're talking about. But essentially the music the original cart supported is the best the music can ever be unless you count re-arrangements. Like no matter the upload quality a bad GBA OST will still be crap. But you could make a fan remix of it using tech available at the time and get a kind of "What if" for certain games had their composers not been constrained by the GBA's design.

Playing with a slightly different ruleset is actually refreshing, mate. You can use things like Bite Jolteon, Shadow Ball Kangaskhan. Venusaur's Razor Leaf hits harder. Arbok's Sludge Bomb hits harder. The list goes on.

In all seriousness FRLG are good games that are completely enjoyable as is. But if someone wanted to get into the series and asked me for a recommendation I'd tell them either HGSS or B&W. The series is just better with the attack split.
