>>37976594Dude, even Kalos is leaps and bounds beyond Alola and that’s railroady as fuck too. There’s no depth whatsoever to any Alola route. You can’t explore or do anything except run to the next flag and maybe grab a berry, but what buries SM isn’t even the constant stops in between, it’s how small the routes are. Again, 1/4 of the screen is the player, you can touch either side of any given route in 2 strides. Restrictive, railroady, featureless + constant stops = the thing you’re defending. Because you’re restricted to the flags, it literally feels more like a CoD campaign or something far more than you’re going on a journey to this RPG world. You’re basically watching a movie where you have to play a walking sim in between each bit of dialogue.
