I love Turtobator but he is the definition of a gimmicky pokemon that is easilly outclassed.
Base 150 fire attack as a signature move sounds great but with base 91 power, it is very underwhelming. This isn't even considering that he has to be hit with a PHYSICAL move and special attacks won't trigger it. Without this, he's a bulky, slow, mediocre special attacker with no sustain.
If shell trap made him basically use endure that turn or or if he had something like morning sun he'd be better. As it stands, he's a goofy mon with a horrible niche and little besides that.

I still like him. He was the only reason I bought sun over moon version. How based am I?
He can learn solar beam, so that's cool too I guess.

Fire/Dragon is considered an elite typing and that's why his BST is so low. Not everyone has a competitive mindset where good pokemon need to be not be weak to Ground, Fighting, Fairy and Dark.

decided to finally try and do Suns post-game while we wait. Found one randomly in the grass and almost added it to my team. A quick look up revealed it has shit for stats and a rather dull movelist to boot.
A damn shame really.

Sun and Moon was the worst gen for pokemon stats and move pools, no other gen fucked up so many pokemon. Almost every pokemon in the game is ruined by something that could have been avoided

I tried to use him in game, since he's one of the gen 7 designs I actually like, but he just kept dying, and couldn't even hit anything hard, so I gave up on him.
