Eh he filled his role I liked it better than if they had just used him to replace blue. THEN I would agree with you. But having another kid you travel kind of along with from your same small town is forgatable but not the worst. Gen 4 was the worst imo. Like babysitting a baby brother

And I hardly see daddy issues being a valid excuse for Silver's dialogue during most of the game.

I would like to argue that Tierno is the worst rival, bar none. This is by virtue of the fact that you could cut him from the game entirely, and the only thing that would need to change is who gives you the Flash TM. Any of your other "friends," or even a random nameless NPC, could have done this.

XY's rivals were all pretty shit, it's like they tried to give each of them the quirks Cheren/Bianca or Barry had between them (plus jesus christ it was soul-destroying watching Serena have a mental breakdown over her inability to defeat me in battle). Hau/Gladion and even Hugh were better than that whole lot put together.

I played through Emerald today and beat May at the Weather Institute and Scott mentioned that her face was flushed red with anger as she left our battle.

You interact with those three in a way where their goals and yours conflict, or where they're actively supportive in Shauna's case. And then you have Tierno who talks non-stop about Pokemon dancing and serves no purpose at all. It stood out to me.

The best rival is Cheren. Competitive but not an asshole for no reason. Has his own character arc that makes sense and that reaches a satisfying conclusion, and he isn't outright useless like a lot of other rivals. He destroys Team Plasma alongside you, and you get to see him grow as a person. Then BW2 happens and his growth is even more evident. I think he's honestly the best written rival.
