Trapinch losing almost all of its attack stat when it evolves and having to work to gain it back again as a Flygon. Both Flygon and Trapinch have the same attack stat.

Not sure how legit this is, but I think Golem and Machamp were meant to be kind of similar to Escavalier and Accelgor with each taking features from the other upon trade evolution.

Golem gets the reptilian face/traits whereas Graveler’s four arms are given to Machamp.

Machamp is still a logical continuation of Machoke though.

Golem looks like it belongs to an entirely different evolutionary line.

Evolutionary lines weren't always designed by the same person. That's why some of them look radically different in their last stage. Like Dragonite, Golem and Venomoth.

I do get what you're saying, but I still don't think it makes any sense.

The more logical thing to do would be to make Golem simply a larger, bulkier, more humanoid Graveler.

ive always thought that geodude -> graveler -> golem was supposed to be like igneous -> sedimentary -> metamorphic rock. the graveler x machoke thing is a cool theory tho.

Yes, because Butterfree's line is directly based upon real swallotails, and "hurrdurr da same eyes" isn't enough of an argument, considering that Gen1 samefags so many design aspects.
