In other games, you could in most cases progress a route or two beyond where you were supposed to go to advance the story. Then you have the infamous Stoutland trainer blocking your path to the other hotel for no reason when the Sudowoodo are already blocking the other path leading to a later city until after you beat Lana. You've also got the shitty gatekeepers sitting DIRECTLY in front of most routes when other games would at least let you explore some of it before you got to where you couldnt proceed or were told to turn back.
