Middle Eastern and African slave trade had periods of more lenient slavery, like you described, and very long periods of horror slaughter and abuse. This whole "Western slavery was really mean, but everything else was just fine," is an actual lie based on political narrative. Muslims and Africans maintained chattel slavery, most of them were soldiers or worked salt fields. In the West, there were times and places where slaves could be artisans, and could work to earn their freedom, earned wages, ect. Also, the West never practiced sexual slavery, whereas the africans and muslims ran rape torture dungeons for thousands of years.
You need to do a deep dive into the historical literature instead of deepthroating everything your marxist professor says is "true."
