>>38017838Things in GS were limited by time of day, days of the week, swarms, etc. To catch em all, you literally had to get up early and stay up late. You had to collect phone numbers and wait for swarms. You had to go around testing tons of headbutt trees. The story rarely interrupted you and the legends were out of the way. Hell, 3 of the legends actively ran away from you. GS grabbed you by the balls and demanded you spent time on it, and as a kid, you were happy to oblige. Modern Pokemon begs you to finish the game and is scared if you get lost or forget the plot line. I think so many fans want open world Pokemon because games like BotW reminds them of that feeling. Regardless of how open or linear things actually were, as a kid you played it the same way as Miyamoto did when he spent hours climbing trees.
