Cute. One of the stronger friend-style rivals but could have done with some better development though, since he felt like the weakest of your buddies in SM compared to Lillie and Gladion. Better than May/Brendan or any of the XY crew, but not as good as Barry. Had a solid team though that'd keep you on your toes a little more than the average fight in SM. Preferred Kukui as the champion of the E4 overall but it's always nice for the final fight to be a rival battle so I can't fault it too much.

Lillie, Gladion and Lusamine all have specifically non-Japanese names though. Kinda shows they are really exotic considering even characters in Unova and Kalos had mostly Japanese names.

Pretty good. Maybe my favourite friendly rival but I'd have to play gen 4 again to know for sure. I do wish some of his screen-time was eschewed in favour of making Gladion a more substantial aggressive rival. There's no need to battle him 3 times on the first island.

My UM playthrough would have been less tedious if he didn't even exist. Could've just made Lillie the 'rival' and it would have worked just as well with one less stupid character in my face every 30 steps.

He’s a weird rival. In Sun and Moon he’s much more like your buddy than anything else. In Ultra Sun and Moon they try to make him more serious as a rival but he ends up seeming much more annoying and dumb. How dare he take my Kukui champion fight away from me too.
