>>38023067What's the point of having a rare Pokémon handed to you? As a kid, I got an Action Replay for the GBA and used it to level everything I had up to level 100. I maxed out tons of items, got every berry, completed the Pokédex, and was excited because I could do anything.
That's when I realized that I had nothing to do anymore. I just had the game auto-complete itself and there was no point in playing without struggle. Find an actual legit Shiny? Its value feels severely diminished by the box full of Shiny Legendaries that were all hacked in. I ended up resetting both Ruby and FireRed because there was just no point in playing those files anymore. I don't really restart games. Once I start a file in Pokémon, it's my file for life and I can see my history and what I was thinking from that point in time. But I can barely remember what I did legitimately now. I remember I had a Glalie and that stands out to me because it's something I wouldn't normally have as a kid, but it's long gone now.
The experiences of finding rare Pokémon make them more memorable. I can't tell you when I first caught a Bronzor, but I can tell you memories of trying to get a Light Ball from wild Pikachu, unlocking Spiritomb, finding Munchlax, spending 2 hours in Silver looking for a Heracross, etc.
