Feraligatr: Waterfall, Surf, Avalanche, Crunch. Has coverage against water, rock, ground, dragon, flying, psychic, and ghost types.
Ampharos: Discharge, Thunder Wave, Signal Beam, wildcard. Coverage against water, flying, dark, and psychic types.
Espeon: Pyschic/Psybeam, Shadow Ball, Swift, wildcard. Coverage against poison, fighting, ghost, and psychic types.
Crobat: Wing Attack, Fly, Confuse Ray, and Cross Poison. Coverage against bug, grass, fighting, and most other types with a chance to poison.
Heracross: Brick Break, Strength, Aerial Ace, and wild card (Bug Bite after E4). Coverage against dark, normal, psychic, bug, flying, and steel types. Aerial Ace is good for pokemon that use minimize/double team/smokescreen.
Wild card is whatever you want. If you have the option to trade and trade back (Scizor, Steelix, etc.) the opportunities open up. Magcargo is available before the aftergame, you can talk to a guy in Violet City and get an egg for a Slugma. Google it. Larvitar/Houndour are available before the E4 through the Safari Zone. This is with Gen 2 mons in mind only.
