When I mean "different times" I don't mean just "Pokémon you can only catch at night", because every time of day counts. What I think kills Pokémon, no matter how much I understand the reason behind it, is game-exclusive Pokémon. Especially because with the day/night system it makes the system less special.
So for instance you can catch, during morning, the following Pokémon in Johto Route 30 (Gold version):
>Caterpie>Metapod>Pidgeyyawn. Whereas Silver lets you catch, in addition to Weedle and Kakuna (instead of Caterpie/Metapod) a Ledyba. Likewise, during the night you can catch the Gold-exclusive Spinarak, whereas Crystal ALSO adds Poliwag and Zubat (this one of no consequence).
