The argument is the depiction she have in the other medias, not only in the games, is the same, except in the anime. Her artwork, her tcg artwork, her game model, and her character in the manga, have this expression, you cannot just change it in the anime making her so generic with meme faces, instead of developing her in the way she is depicted in every other media.

It's a good point because as i already said, face expressions are part of personality of a character. And that was even part of the appeal of that character, since in Alola a lot of people are so happy and cheerful, then you find this girl with this expression.

The anime always screws up the game's own portrayal of the characters. Just look at Anabel and Lucy, their anime versions are nothing like their original game counterparts.

Lucy is a cold, smug and selfish person in the games that only relies on herself to live her life the best way possible. The anime has her being much more nicer and kind towards people, and talks more often, something that the game's version of Lucy wouldn't do,

Anabel in Emerald is a strict and harsh person who gloats her victories and has a fit when she loses. Her anime counterpart? Way more nicer and has a crush on Ash for some reason.

So yeah, the anime writers never bother to research on the games' own interpretations of the characters. Its always like that.

This means nothing, i didn't say she is the only character with that facial expression, but "a lot of them" (especially those in the "good side") are happy and cheerful, while she is not, and this is part of her appealing, because she look different from the other girls.
