>>38046192oh believe me, i fully agree. pokemon games were already designed so that you can pretty much faceroll them with your starter even without grinding. starter plus the region bird at most, just because you'll run out of pp in the elite four otherwise, and they give you the box legendary on top of that.
them adding the little "super effective" marker on moves in gen 7 (or did it get added in 6?) was the nail in the coffin for me in terms of thinking they'll ever try to make something challenging.
and i know exactly why they did that too - my younger sibling would just sit there constantly asking me "what beats ghost? what beats ground? what beats flying?" and i got pretty tired of it after, you know, the first 10 times, and told them to fucking look it up if they didn't know by this point. but they just wouldn't. and what's more annoying is that, even if you don't know type effectiveness, you can just fucking try moves until you get one that works. it's not like you're going to lose because of a couple test moves, and even if you do pokemon barely punishes you.
i don't think people understand the level of adhd of people who grew up playing free app games on phones. this is how it goes:
- new pokemon (to them) appears that resists their starter's moves, let's say idk ferrothorn when they have primarina
- they use their spam move (water gun/water pulse/surf) and it doesn't do much
- they use their normal type move, doesn't do much
- they use their starter's secondary type move which they take for granted - doesn't do much
- their starter gets hit hard by a SE move, doesn't die that fast of course but might be in the yellow
at this point frustration is building. uggggh!!! they switch to their idk bird or whatever - and mind you they probably a fucking free fire type in talonflame - or to their normal type, and it doesnt work either. UFFGGGHGH!!!
if they lose, they turn the game off and play something on their phone.
