What happened to the wonderful music present in the games?

I can’t remember a single theme from Gen 7?

I remember a couple of themes from gen 6. I don’t think I remember any from gen 5?

Has Pokemon lost its touch when it comes to iconic town themes and other music?

Nostalgia.

7 has some great music which I also didn't remember because after the E4 I stopped playing for 2 years. Recently went back to it and it has some great tracks. I don't remember these tracks as much as I remember the Gen 1-3 ones because I was younger then and put 200+ hours on the games. Listen to the Aether Paradise theme.

Nostalgia has nothing to do with it, I sill remember the boutique music from XY and many of the town themes from gen 3 although I only played sapphire once

A lot of gen 6 and 7 songs are just soulless, irredeemable shit (geosenge town and mahalo trail come to mind) but a few of them could have been okay if it weren't for the terrible soundfont. None of those synthetic instruments have any punch to them - they're all way too airy and wishy washy, so any songs that try to be 'epic' or whatever just bore me to tears. The ORAS version of route 119 showcase that perfectly.

That said, some atrociously boring songs get a free pass for featuring the few instruments in the soundfont that are pretty. Anistar city, for example.

I can't remember a single theme from gen 4, and the only themes I remember from 5 and 6 and N's theme and the autumn route themes, respectively.

By contrast I can tell you a lot more about gen 7.

It´s not gf´s fault if you are stupid and don´t have taste. I also can mostly remember gen 1 ost, but I still know that gen 5 and 7 had amazing osts.

Gen 6 has awful music. Gen 7 is bad too but the team skull themes are good and U. Necrozma's battle theme is amazing. I'm just tired of how orchestrated the music is becoming.

Mistralton is the best city theme and it never gets love. Opelucid was almost Gen 3 memorable and it still gets remixed. Kyurem had a good theme song, but after the start it weakens. Still Gen V had memorable music.

Celestial Tower and Dreamyard are some of my faves. As well as Winter/Spring/Fall Undella town. I like the music that plays in those tunnels in between routes too.
