Totally disagree. Other than Gumshoos I think everything in the Alolan dex does a unique thing, even if it does it kinda poorly (like Toucannon, though with that typing it needed to be a special attacker to stand a chance)

Meanwhile the Johto Pokedex is full of Pokemon that duplicate Gen I Pokemon's role or do them objectively worse

The highest highs are far more important than the lowest lows. If I don't like a Pokemon, I just ignore it and focus on what I do like. Something that makes me happy is a lot more influential than something I won't pay attention to.

I think this gen had the most good concepts bad executions. I would've loved a singer starter but primarina looks far too goofy and lots of pokemon that seem like they evolve are just single stages

This is the only thing we can argue against Gen II. As much as I love nearly all designs (Stantler being the one major exception, same with Smeargle), the problem with Gen II Pokémon was that many of them were weak or Pokémon meant for competitive autists. So I was very limited in what Pokémon I could feasible use.

But that's a problem of game balance, which is unrelated to Pokémon designs, which is the issue with all gens past III, where it becomes extremely problematic past Gen IV.

Nearly all of them are shit. Even the best line gets fucked in the end by a lion wrestler. Out of 104 designs, I only like 15. That's barely above 10%. GameFreak should just give up and come up with something to make existing Pokés more interesting. Regional variations is a good idea. I particularly like Sandshrew and Exeggutor.
