Anime episode explained this with Faba making a shrink ray by replicating Poke Ball techology

The Pokemon are shrunk down and compressed so they can fit into the ball, and when they're let out of the ball, they grow back to their normal size

Pokemon technology is wild. They casually use teleporters, can fuse humans with Pokemon, travel through time, turn invisible, gain psychic powers, and as you said produce pocket dimensions and sell them for a $1 each.

Pokemon's an idyllic post-scarcity future where nobody needs or wants anything. It's why everyone falls apart the moment one villain group shows up.

Kanto was barren because of the limitations of the gameboy and the developers' efforts obviously. The game needed to be playable on that device, and playable for children.

That's a marketing guideline manual and you're both retarded. Pokeballs convert pokemon to data for storage, the master ball even has extra storage/ram attached to its sides to ensure capture 100% of the time, and advertising isn't supposed to reduce pokemon to video game characters. They're two separate issues.

I already watched the anime when I was a kid and saw Kanto on a much larger scale. It doesn't seem necessary to spend my imagination resources on coming up with some plausible reason why a world of advanced technology and unlimited masses of Pokemon power is barren as fuck.

That marketing guide is from the BW era, when poke-earth was already significantly different from the real world. Starting in gen 2, each gen develops or redevelops the game setting into something further and further away from gen 1's "real world but pokemon and related tech exist" setting.

I'm pretty sure this is just something they made for rando companies doing licensed merchandise. Things more closely related to gamefreak/tpc break the rules from this document (the other pages I've seen posted here in the past) all the time. I think they just wanted to establish boundaries so that toy companies etc don't conflict with anything. Not everyone who works at every random company is gong to know off hand what is typically "on brand" for pokemon.

I did marketing workshops with a huge company and exactly that's what it might be. Kids and /vp/-adults usually are super sensitive to anything that'd feel off beat to the canon and the companies that license stuff usually send someone who has no idea what the franchise, comics or cartoons are and just picks "hey I want to use that character because it's green and we're releasing a new green soda." So these guides are for them to learn that some characters are paired or enemies so that green character won't be paired with a purple, who's an arch enemy, just because they match colors of the sodas that are to be promoted. Kids and auti- dedicated fans would instantly feel that it would be odd.

Animals in the Pokémon world were never retconned or phased out. The marketing guide is just wrong, but I agree with >>38040797. It's an ok guide for a marketing company, but not at all accurate. I wouldn't trust it as a source for how Pokéballs work.

Yeah, exactly. Gamefreak can mention indian elephants all day but they don't want some random company making pokemon figures along with random zoo animals (which they wouldn't own copyrights to)
I personally think that they leave so many things vague in canon completely on purpose. They want people to have these discussions and they don't want to have concrete rules they must stick to no matter what.

They very explicitly ARE stored as data in the PC Box system, and the page even acknowledges this.
