This is probably where everyone got confused, I know I did, I thought you had to go to olivine, this is probably where everyone thinks the level curve gets greedier

The only time a split path has ever sort of worked out is Koga and Sabrina. Their levels are close enough and high enough that they can be fought in either order without too much weirdness. Blaine to an extent as well. Really that stems from the fact that Kanto is very open by that point in the game.
