I'll be hyped if they show that most of the map is actually explorable and not a straight line.
The true test will be this part right here, it looks absolutely huge for GF standards and very wide, if they make this truly explorable it'll show a commitment to a fulfilling adventure.
I'm just not up for another Sun & Moon North Korean tourist tour with 30 hours of Lillie cutscenes, I yearn to breathe. That's priority number one for me.

Me too, anon.
I was really hoping for an overhaul on some accounts but I have hope for this regardless of them sticking to the tried and true method. Art direction is decent and I can't wait to see what post game they include for their first console game.
It also helps about 5-6 of my buddies play each new game. Though we'll see who shells for a switch if they haven't at this point

I think the possibility of local multiplayer will really open up post-game facilities. Either with rental Pokemon, building two parties with your own Pokemon, or using a second save file on the Switch. With the 3DS Gamefreak placed a lot of importance on online multiplayer but the Switch itself has a strong focus on local multiplayer I'm pretty sure they'll have some kind of feature for it. LGPE did after all.

Every single first trailer since Black and White have been the exact same. Show the region, the starters, some things of interest, and then done, gradually showing off more each and every month. Your decision on whether or not you should buy the game shouldn’t be decided at the first reveal. You should wait until you know more about it. The way they handle these trailers is standard at this point. Don’t know why everyone were expecting something on a grand scale to be shown. It’s Pokemon in HD. They want to pique your interest and spill you with marketing words that get you excited for what they show in the future. It’s been like this for 8 years.

That’s Mario Maker. Not Pokémon. GameFreak handle their trailers completely different, and you and I know both know that. MM2 is releasing in 2 months, while Gen 8 is at the end of the year. The mid year trailers have always been the ones where they start showing over the real big stuff the new games have to offer, so again, I don’t know why you and so many others were expecting something different for the first reveal.

I suppose that's fair. I will wait for more information but so far it doesn't look like the big jump I expected from handheld to console. Ironically, LGPE took more advantage of it's home console nature by having motion controls, local co-op, overworld encounters etc.

Yeah but Masuda in interviews outright said with LGPE he set out to break conventions and rules that they have hard set for the main series like on screen encounters, no wild battles, motion controls, and having box access anywhere because he wanted them to feel unique compared to the core game that they were working on.

I'm so glad I'm not a hardcore pokefag. I picked up x/y and ORAS for my son. I decided to play with him so I played the blues and he played the reds then we switched. I was happy with them both because they exceeded my expectations which were none because gen 4 was the last game I had played until all this. Then I got sun and moon on release and since I had expectations which was it to be ORAS in a new region with new pokemon I was highly highly disappointed. Not only was it nothing like ORAS but all the new mon were ugly and z moves are stupid. The game felt like it went on forever even though the map was so tiny.
