Why is Rhydon only used in NU while Rhyperior is tiered for RU and sees usage in UU?
Shouldn't Rhydon be used in the same tiers as Rhyperior, given that they both run the same sets and Rhyperior's stat increases are negligible compared to Rhydon's eviolite?

Rhyperior has a useful ability + can run multiple items
Rhydon has no abilities + limited to Evolite

Like I said, the stat differences are negligible. Defensive Rhyperior with Leftovers, the standard set, doesn't do anything particularly better than Defensive Rhydon with Eviolite using the exact same set.
Even with Eviolite knocked off, Rhydon doesn't get completely crippled. It still has stats similar to Rhyperior in most respects without it.

The ability is the first thing that stood out to me but even that doesn't sound right. Solid Rock causes you to take 25% less damage from super effective attacks but Eviolite causes you to take 25-50% less damage from everything.

But AV Rhyperior isn't a thing in any tier, and Eviolite Rhydon would have comparable special defense while boasting much higher physical defense.

You're looking at it all wrong. Regardless of how comparable or similar they are, rhyperior's superior functionality when knocked off and versatility with items makes it explicitly superior, so it gets picked in the upper tiers 100% of the time. You wouldn't bring aromatisse to OU just because it's similar to clefable, clefable's has more to offer, so you always pack clef every time.

Fucking Christ I really wish they would fix Rhydon. It's got two abilities affecting recoil moves, at least give it some recoil moves! Head Smash, Wild Charge, a fucking Double Edge that doesn't have to be transferred from Gen 1. And if you're not going to do that, give the whole line Solid Rock.

This is digusting treatment for the first Pokemon, anons.
