What exactly is "normal"? It changed drastically between DP and BW, and again between BW and XY.

There is no "normal" for the Pokemon anime anymore. Ever since BW, they've been treating each new region as a separate show.

School isn't relevant, and Alola is divided into four islands instead of being one landmass, so it can't be "explored" like other regions.

What? You'd just get some episodes once in a while ending with them leaving in ships/airplanes/Pokemon to the next island. It happened all the time back in the Orange Islands.

There's not enough to do on each island to have them back to back

Melemele: Totem Gumshoos trial, Hala
Akala: Totem Lurantis trial, Olivia
Ula'ula: Thrifty Megamart Trial, Nanu
Poni: Hapu

Each island only has one trial (except Ula'ula has no Totem Pokemon, and Poni doesn't have trial before the Kahuna) and one Kahuna battle

They already confirmed gen 8 won't have the gen 7 artstyle, a magazine interview with a producer had him get asked why gen 7 had such a different artstyle, and he said that "well, ALL the series have different artstyles, though you might be right that the gen 7 one differs from the others more than usual".
