How old are they supposed to be compared to other protagonists? They look older than gen 1-4 but younger than Calem/Serena

why do people care about their ages? aside from gen 7 which straight up shouts they're 11 to you the protagonists can really be anything under 20

ORAS was consistent about it to it was easier to chalk up to shit style, LGPE made it very clear your character is stupidly young compared to everyone else.

Calem and Serena were 18

Maybe I'm reading your post wrong, but the ORAS protags being 12 fits in line with the originals being preteens. It's not like ORAS were sequels or anything

Play the games anon. Emma is outright stated to be 16 and Looker says the Calem/Serena are too old to be his assistant. You could say they are 17, but if you wanna be real autistic, you can look at the legal age for working in a hotel, which is 18. Since you can get a job in Lumiose’s hotels, Calem and Serena are 18.

Not him, but I just didn’t expect them to outright state that they are 12 years old. I have no problem with it I just didn’t think they would do that. That was the first time an official age of protagonists were brought up in the game. We know Blue and Red were 11 because of the manuals.

Serena/Calem's ages were indirectly referred to in XY's postgame, too. It's sort of weird how the protagonists' ages are being progressively more thrown in your face since gen 6.

BW protagonists looked like 16, XY like 18.

Now in Sword&Shield, they look younger but not too young. I would say about 13-14.
