I knew for sure the moment they announced the Switch would have paid online.
I also knew for sure when I remembered that the PSS isn't coming back.
As well as when I realized that they could easily implement trivial features like following Pokémon, but they just don't because they can get away with it.

I didn't say anything about overworld encounters.
Following Pokémon is extremely trivial and they already have all the models and animations (they forgot all the files inside Sun and Moon's data). The only reason it's not a constant element in the series is that they can get away with it. So when something like LGPE comes out, it's great, because it has this "extremely hard to implement" feature that everyone wants! When it could and should be there to begin with.
