Bugsy unironically has a Metapod and a Kakuna; Claire is just a shit version of Lance; Morty doesn't have a Misdreavus; Falkner, Morty, Jasmine, Pryce, and Claire all have two of the same pokemon on their team; Gen 2 pokemon are seriously underrepresented in general.

People are upset because Falkner uses Pokemon that you already have access to and are more than familiar with. Usually what ends up happening with the first gym is that the leader uses (at least one) Pokemon you won't have access to until at least a Gym or two later; Brock and Onix, Roxanne and Nosepass, etc.

Hell, Onix has such a lousy BST because he seems to be outright designed to be a "first boss" for the game.

The fight's underwhelming because you've seen these Pokemon before in ubiquity. I don't think there's any real need to cram in Gen II mon on his team per se, but since either 1) you were likely to have used a Pidgeot in RBY and if not 2) Pidgeot is already associated with Blue, I'd have put a Farfetch'd on his team – a Pokemon that was particularly inconspicious in RBY, and you won't have access to until later.

This is reinforced with Bugsy, who is again using 2 Pokemon you already have access to – Scyther is the only mon on his team done close to right. I'd have done something like Ledian and Venomoth, but those two don't have access to Fury Cutter. Scyther and Heracross would've made sense.

Whitney is the only Gym Leader done right – though her team formation is a bit underwhelming (a second Clefairy? maybe Jigglypuff?)

Morty is about as good a ghost leader you can get pre-Gen III; there's no real need to force Misdreavus on his team because Gengar is a perfectly good ace for a gym leader.

Chuck's weird.

Jasmine feels like a missed opportunity. Flavor text implies she used to be a Rock type leader, but between the Magnemites and her association with Ampharos you're left confused if she used to be an Electric type leader? I really don't know what do with her except add a Magneton onto her team.

Pryce is one of my favorite Gym Leaders; I would've handled this differently, though, giving him Swinub, Piloswine, and a Lapras for his ace. Seel and Dewgong are too easy to OHKO for a 7th leader.

Clair is fine

GSC speedruns consistently include Kanto; even the glitched any% ones use arbitrary code execution to jump straight to the post-Red dialogue and second credits roll, so I think it's generally agreed upon that Kanto isn't just an optional postgame thing like the Battle Frontier or whatever.

I feel like Hoothoot and then Pidgeotto would be a better line-up.
You made Bugsy worst. Butterfree -> Beedrill -> Scyther would be way better.
Jigglypuff would suit better instead of Furret.
Why misdreavus as Ace? It sucks. Change one Haunter for a Gengar and make it its ace.
Poliwrath as Chuck's Ace makes much more sense. Machoke -> Primeape -> Poliwrath suits better. Let Bruno have the full Hit line.
I'm okay with Jasmine here, well done.
No Dewgong? Also Delibird is awful, no need to put it there only for representation, it will die to one hit by anything. I would drop Cloyster or Lapras for Dewgong.
No need for Dragonites here or Lance would be useless. I would just add Seadra in the original line up.

The problem with trying to fix Falkner is that his strongest pokemon is L9 and hardly anything learns any decent attacks that early so it's just going to be different flavors of Tackle and Growl no matter what you do.
Hoothoot sounds like a good change on paper, but at such a low level all it brings to the table is Foresight, which is fucking useless unless you're trying to cheese the gym with a Gastly (which was already a non-starter since it gets hit by flying moves anyway and takes double damage from Mud Slap)

Whitney would never use Aipom, the whole gym theme is cuteness, meowth or jigglypuff suits better
Drop the Hitmontop from Chuck and give it to Bruno(then you can get rid of that awful Donphan). Put Machoke on its place.
Delibird is OHKOed by anything, no point to a gym leader have it. Lapras on its place.
I like the elite4 but that retarded Donphan on Bruno's team. Also, a second Dragonite would be way better than a out of place Rhydon(you could make one Physical, one Special).
I'm okay with the Kanto leaders but the Blue's Charizard. Stick the manga cannon on your ass.
The red team is pure cancer, and I don't care about the "m-muh manga cannon", whoever did this is an absolute idiot for thinking this is a good idea for a final boss team.

Perhaps? I thought Natu with Nightshade at an early level might have been somewhat challenging and, since there are so many Hoothoots, maybe having it in the gym would be overkill.

GS was just another entry in the established series that happened to have new content. There was no "let's go to a completely different region and throw reskinned pokemon archetypes into the player's face" formula until gen 3 and beyond.

Keep his Fire type to Arcanine. For the games, the Exeggutor, Gyardos, Arcanine line is too iconic for him and him having 3 Flyers just looks weird, even if that is an iconic end for him in Kanto.

I love the Tauros since its a monster in Gen 1 and is a cool reference to the team Professor Oak has if you glitch to battle him in Red/Blue.

Scizor is a cool callback to the manga and really fitting for the character. Keep it.

Pidgeot is iconic for Blue in Kanto, but I feel like Machamp, Aerodactyl, or Rhydon would round out his team better. I know he doesn't use Machamp or Aero until later gens, but I feel like we could still reference them. Pidgeot's fine though.

My prediction for Let's Go Johto GL/E4/Champ teams (initial and rematch).

I tried to keep the LGPE rule of no repeats and gave everyone at least one Gen II-introduced mon.

I wanted to keep them "realistic", although there are some unlikely, wishful elements (like Lance's Tyranitar from Stadium/PokeSpe or Red's Espeon restored). And of course the teams are subject to change when we learn Gen 8's gimmick for old Pokemon.

Better? Worse?
