You need to keep in mind that Gamefreak had to make 700+ models for every single Pokemon made up to that point, which would be a daunting task for just about any developer. Were the animations shit? Sure, but they could have been improved upon in later versions. But they weren't. Gamefreak's crime isn't making XY, it's failing to build upon the foundations XY laid down.
I honestly don't know how anyone can say gen VII is better than XY. XY has its flaws, but holy fucking shit gen VII is a pure slog to play through. Once gen VIII hits, I'm never going back to Alola and I hope to god Galar doesn't follow the same direction.
