>>38078987I got the exact opposite vibe. HGSS adds a lot to each song, but I feel it's done out of celebrating the legacies of each track and giving players more than what they expected. It's like how someone might start up a classic piano medley with a new lead-in. In this way, it feels like you can listen to both the original and the new version as separate tracks.
LGPE, on the other hand, is way too faithful to the originals to the point it doesn't really offer anything new. It tries to match every note and timing and it just comes off as the exact same music with a different soundfont. Say what you will about Masuda, but he's probably the best composer Game Freak has ever had. Shota Kageyama has melody, but I think it lacks substance, and he was too afraid to stray off the beaten path for LGPE. It needs more creative flourishes rather than just different instruments.
