The only savable is blue front Pidgey it's the most beastly and semirealistic by far simply for those small bird eyes, kinda wish they followed that pattern for all gen 1 pokemon

Most back sprites are pretty hideous but I've always thought most of the front sprites are fine. Sounds are fine too.

But for me that's never been about them feeling more powerful or anything; it's more just I can see/hear them and be like "yeah this is acceptable." The older sprites definitely have more character than when they started putting every mon in generic poses.

For me too, even if it's technically "off model" also I think the RSE sprite is the worst version but to be fair non gen 3 pokemon weren't treated well as a whole in those 3 games, Nidoking and feraligatr are also up there.

Rock type moves are so lame
>Throw a rock

The only ones that do anything interesting are Rollout, Head Smash, Rock Polish, and Wide Guard.

A bit more understandable when zoomed in sprites are from faux-3D than just resizing them to half the intended version and upscaling in game.

Yes, especially the sounds. There are so many mean sounding attacks like Thunderbolt/Thunder, Surf, Blizzard, Tri-Attack, ect..that they completely gutted in newer gens as time went on.
