>>38090568Yeah, the tweaking wasn't very well done thematically, no arguments on that.
Badges seemed like they should have allowed access to field moves as long as you have a compatible Pokemon in your party; the game just takes the first compatible Pokemon in your team to perform it. A well-varied team would easily cover for everything (eg. your Surfing Pokemon is the same as your Waterfall-climbing Pokemon, without getting cockblocked by two move slots taken or having two Pokemon that can learn one or the other to accommodate).
Probably bonus points for those that like the classic HM slaves as actual team members rather than just field move coverage.>>38090622If the trade evos only evolve when traded amongst each other that would still be fine. One of the key problems is that there is no control over their evolution, meaning that if someone trades with you they still get your 2nd-stager rather than the 1st-stager you gave to them. Yeah, nice surprise in concept, not so much in practice for the literal loser who just exchanged a trained Pokemon of their own for any of the options possible under the sun, ranging from someone's starter, to a shitmon only usable for filling the 'Dex.
Fast way to deal with unwanted friendships circa 2000, and nothing more than an antiquated holdover nowadays, if you ask me.
