first and favourite. gen 3 easily had the best starters, every generation either has one that's clearly the most popular or least popular but gen 3 didn't.

Mudkip gameplay wise, he was incredibly reliable if kept away from grass types

For design I think Snivy, Charmander, Rowlet and Poppilio are great looking lines

First was bulbasaur because I was a young kid when red/blue first came out and he was supposed to be the easiest starter.
I can't decide my favorite between totodile and chimchar.

It's still Charmander, and it was my first starter. I have to say, eight generations later, grass is still the worst starting type in the game. The only grass starter that I ever stuck with was Sceptile, and even then I go for Mudkip or Blaizken for replays. Literally every time I've started grass, it's been a reset halfway through the game because they're so ugly and shitty every goddamn time.
