The great debate. This is why I consider the Exp Share the best addition to Pokémon in a long time. Before Exp Share I would have a team of at most two, the starter and another early Pokémon. I would use these two exclusively because switching around to give a team of 6 exp is too big of a hassle. I like to keep my team at least 10 levels above any Pokémon I face, without Exp Share this is impossible without grinding. This is why Exp Share is great, it lets me keep a team of 6 Pokémon all at a reasonable level and makes the battles a little harder. Without Exp Share my starter is always overlevelled and is never threatened by any Pokémon in any battle, the only problem is running out of PP. With Exp Share building a team of 6 is fun and actually keeps all Pokémon closer in level to what I’m facing, making each individual battle a little more challenging and fun. Some anecdotal experiences, without Exp Share I had a lv 100 Blaziken when I beat Sapphire, I also trained my turtwig to lv 36 before obtaining my Pokédex in pearl because this actually saves time and makes everything easier. This is why I dropped the series after gen 4 but came back with 6. In Ultra Moon I remember being challenged many times despite having a team of 6 Pokémon of high level Pokémon, something impossible in the earlier gens. In earlier gens without ridiculous grinding you’ll end up with 6 Pokémon barely at the level of what you’re facing, which I do not like. I Ultra Moon I had 6 Pokémon always about 10 levels above anything I faced but that was more challenging than having an overlevelled starter. You may say just don’t overlevel your starter but it’s ridiculous that only one Pokémon gets Exp and it should have been changed a long time ago. To summarize Exp Share makes the game more fun, and at the same time a little more challenging. But that’s just my thoughts, I know you fellow autists hate it and want it gone(despite being able to turn it off)
