USUM changed the rules a little bit here. Mid gen Pokémon are now a thing and Meltan and Melmetal are examples of them as are Blacephalon, Stakataka, Poipole, Naganadel, and Zeraora. All of them are gen 7, just introduced after the main batch of gen 7 Pokémon.
Bonsly in GoD is purely a tease and can only be used within a single battle mode. It's completely unobtainable in any instance outside of Battle Bingo without the assistance of cheating devices or hacking the game, completely unofficial and unintended methods of obtaining it. Teases fo however come in many different forms like Togepi's appearance in the Gen 1 anime, Kecleon, Wynaut, and Blaziken's appearances in the gen 2 anime, so on and so on. It boils down to this.
Is there a new region? If yes, then it's a new generation, if no then it's part of the generation established with the last new region. Spinoff regions need not apply as they aren't considered canon and are irrelevant to the discussion. 1/2
