Honestly, roleplaying is superb. If you put effort into it you dramatically improve your writing, catching your writing habits more easily and widening your vocabulary. I've never explicitly set out to do a sexual roleplay, but often when you have characters adventuring for so long and getting to know each other, they can start developing feelings for one another. Outright explicit scenes are few and far between but heartfelt moment of kindness and caring definitely do happen.
My only problem sometimes are trying to roleplay with people who are exclusively just self-inserting into their character. It can start to make the roleplay dull, because those kinds of people aren't going to cause the plot to move forward. You need animated and strong characters to take risks, act unconventional at times, and be self-reflective, and if you're typing with someone who is just looking to fulfill a brain fantasy they're doing to very often be a deadweight.
For sure you should be able to pull from your own life experiences and should manifest one aspect of your personality into your characters to make them that much more real, but honestly try changing it up some time.
