My bet is in „Light“, there are enough pokemon which would fit that type and also movewise could be done al lot. Furthermore it could work to counter dark and steel

They had exactly one chance to introduce "Light" type with Ultra Necrozma. Shock and amaze, they didn't do it. We shouldn't even want new types when not only do the ones we already have cover damn near every concept imaginable, and GameFreak can't even balance them properly.

I'm not against Light type, but I am against "Light counters Dark". "Dark" is literally "Evil" in japanese, not actual darkness.
Light type should represent only literal light.

No. Rock and Ground are already pretty close and they actually have mechanical differences that make sense, what the fuck would be the difference between an air type and a flying type? I can't think of a single instance where the resistances/weaknesses would be different aside from rock not being super-effective, but even then, rock would likely resist air.

The only new types I've heard of that make sense are sound and space/cosmic.
A decent amount of pokemon and moves are designed around sound, and it's a coherent enough concept to come up with understandable strengths and weaknesses.
Space has even more pokemon designed around it, with the majority of them given the pyschic type solely for the sake of representing their special powers, even if their powers aren't psychic in origin. Granted, you'd have a harder time thinking of its strengths and weaknesses, but it's still a type that would serve a purpose. Literally the only pokemon I can think of that would be "Light" type is Necrozma, or pokemon where their light source is represented by an element that is the source of the light.

Also adding that this would be a potential reason why so many Flying-types are Normal/Flying. It's very possible that they were typed as Bird/Wind, with Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres being Ice/Bird, Electric/Bird, and Fire/Bird.

Charizard: Fire/Wind
Butterfree: Bug/Wind
Zubat/Golbat: Poison/Wind
Scyther: Bug/Wind
Gyarados: Water/Wind
Aerodactly: Rock/Wind (or maybe even Rock/Bird)
Dragonite: Dragon/Wind

Maybe Game Freak just found it redundant.

Charizard, Gyarados, and Dragonite all make sense being wind, everything else should be Bird.
Wind implies some mastery over the air or ability to manipulate it, while Bird just means it has wings and flies.

Even Charizard is debatable, I just threw it in because only having two gen 1 Wind types seemed sad. Gyarados obviously isn't a bird, and while Dragonite has wings, it clearly can't keep itself aloft with them, and has associations with causing storms.

None of the others do anything vaguely "wind" related besides fly in it.

Sedimentary rocks are usually Ground, or Rock/Ground, Igneous rocks are usually pure Rock or Rock/Fire, and Metamorphic is either Rock/Steel or Ground/Steel

People think Sound is credible because of the way the Fairy type was rolled out, and the retconning of several Normal types into Fairy.

Compare this to the way Type retcons had previously happened; Magnemite and Magneton had Steel *added*, not replacing their Electric typing. Yeah, some moves were outright retconned into new typings (Bite went from normal to Dark) but otherwise they weren't per se taking extant Pokemon from a type group and shunting them off into a new type altogether

Which is what Fairy did with several normal types. Previously cuteish Pokemon who had comfortably fallen under the big tent of the Normal typing were subcategorised into a discrete type category

So yeah, even though sound is very firmly represented under Normal as an implicit thing – so had fairy been until they decided to go ahead and make it a type. Fairy had implicitly been there all along with a certain appearance of pink, roundish Pokemon, who sometimes had abilities like Cute Charm, very diverse movepools with a Cleric-like slant to them, etc.

But you could do this with several types right now. Flying could be split into Wind and Bird. Why not shunt some Water Pokemon into an all-new Fish type?

I guess the thing I don't get is: why do you guys want this? It's just more type matchups to have to memorise and shit. Fairy was a benefit in the end because it knocked Dragons from their four-generations-in-a-row throne, made Poison viable, etc. but the meta doesn't currently have a huge need for it.

Fairy right now, as a fairly new move, has some pretty limited movepool options. Several of them are still needing to get Play Rough or Moonblast bred on to them.. it's a bit awkward.

The last thing people should be asking for from the series is more bloat.

Sound is better off being a new type because the current resistances for sound moves don't make sense. Hyper Voice is not effective against steel types and doesn't effect ghosts at all. It makes more sense and will improve the game, including things like the Exploud line.
