The crystals come out of nowhere and don't really work. The actual M-Tyranitar is shit but at least its design is more evocative of "endless sandstorms eroding the body into a new shape"

I just hate the way M-Tar is posed. Its design is fine. Nothing can save a Pokémon from looking absolutely awful in-game though. Models do no one justice.

I never saw it that way, i always saw it as uncontrolled growth to the absolute limit Tyranitars form would allow. Kinda like an over grown bug with too much mass for the body to deal with.

I imagine an alt mega heracross being kamen raider esque, since he is the ultimate dark type basher, he could have a red mane immitating the classical scarf.

Also an alt mega blastoise with the cannons aim back and becoming propulsers, he could have simple shells on their hands to jet propelled box punches

No one was saying it was good, but the redesign is a downgrade. The spikes going outward and upright gives the mega presence, a prominence over regular Tyranitar.
Mega Tyranitar is also slimmer than regular Tyranitar, and the spikes on its neck are smaller. If we took away the features that make Mega Tyranitar look more formidable, but kept the aspects that were toned down to accentuate the former, we're left with something that just looks weaker than a non-mega Tyranitar.
